2016 marks the release of Rheia, Oathbreaker’s cathartic new album that boldly blurs the lines of hardcore, black metal and other heavier genres of old. Follow this Belgian cult band out to San Francisco, California, for the recording of this third album, which reads like a musical essay on the genre, yet strikes a very personal chord. Singer Caro delves into her own insides, whispering and wooing through amazingly honest, self-reflective and fragile lyrics. Raw and explicit, these are a step up from former, more abstract and dark writing. This honesty reflects itself musically, with riffs soaring and blasting all the while, before coming down with intense emotional weight.
